WHAT IS SYTAR AND WHO IS THE SYTAR 2008 FOR?
The Symposium on Yoga Therapy and Research (SYTAR)  is the Annual Meeting of the International Association of Yoga Therapists (IAYT). It is open to all members of IAYT as well as other professionals involved in any aspect of Yoga therapy including Yoga teachers, Yoga therapists, Yoga researchers and health professionals who use Yoga in their work. SYTAR brings together the teachings of many distinguished Yoga teachers, therapists, lineages and schools. SYTAR also presents contemporary research in Yoga and addresses professional challenges and opportunities facing Yoga therapy today.


WHAT ABOUT CONTINUING EDUCATION CREDITS?
Yoga Alliance (YA)
SYTAR 2008 offers up to 24.25 contact hours in continuing education credits as recognized by the Yoga Alliance. To download the certification form, please click here. For more information, visit

International Association of Yoga Therapists (IAYT)
IAYT members may receive a certificate for up to 24.25 contact hours of continuing education units to be used for any professional organization CE credits that apply or for IAYT CE credits in the future. To download the certificate, please click here. The certification download requires Acrobat reader. To download the Acrobat reader, please click here.

Attendees will be able to receive up to 21.5 continuing education contact hours with Yoga Alliance. Continuing education forms can be downloaded by clicking
here or can be picked up on site. Registrants will then complete the form and send it to Yoga Alliance at the time of their registration renewal.

DO CURRENT IAYT MEMBERS RECEIVE A DISCOUNT?
Yes. Current IAYT members receive a discount of $100.

HOW CAN I TELL IF MY IAYT MEMBERSHIP IS CURRENT?
Your membership expiration date is displayed as part of your profile when you log in to the members' section of the IAYT website. Your Membership type and expiration date are in the "Account Information" section at the top of the page. We also print your expiration date above your name on the address label of all our print publications.

HOW DO I RENEW MY IAYT MEMBERSHIP ONLINE?
Log in to the members' section of the IAYT website and then select 'Membership and Renewal Information' from the top menu. If you renew early, your full year will be added to your existing renewal date.

WHAT IF I DO NOT REMEMBER MY USERNAME AND PASSWORD?
Enter the email address you used to join IAYT and your username and password will be emailed to you. If you do not know the email address you used to join, email membership@iayt.org, or give us a call (928-541-0004, M-F, 10-4, MST) and we will look it up for you.

DO ANY OTHER ASSOCIATION MEMBERS RECEIVE A DISCOUNT?
In order to support our complementary missions, current members of the National Ayurvedic Medical Association (NAMA), the Yoga Alliance (YA), the American College of Vedic Astrology (ACVA) and the Green Yoga Association (GYA) may also attend this event at IAYT member prices.

WHAT IS INCLUDED IN THE REGISTRATION FEE?
Registration fee includes the Thursday afternoon Intensives (Workshops), Thursday night welcome reception, entrance to the SYTAR 2008 main sessions, concurrent sessions and practice sessions, breakfasts on Friday, Saturday and Sunday; lunches on Friday and Saturday and all refreshments served during the breaks and entrance to the exhibit hall. The registrants also receive a tote bag with the final program.


WHAT DOES MY REGISTRATION NOT COVER?

Your registration does not include the Friday night social event ($50) and the private luncheons with the speakers ($50 per luncheon).


DOES MY REGISTRATION INCLUDE THE PRICE OF MY HOTEL ROOM?
No, your registration fee does not cover the cost of your hotel room.


CAN I REGISTER ON SITE?
Yes, but contingent of openings still available. The first SYTAR sold out well in advance. Please contact us prior to the meeting so we can share with you registration options.

HOW DO I FIND A ROOMMATE DURING THE SYTAR 2008 AT THE HILTON LAX?
You can sign up for a match by clicking the Message Board..

DO I HAVE TO CHOOSE MY SESSIONS WHEN I REGISTER?

Yes. You will be asked to select your Intensive (Workshop) on Thursday, practice sessions on Friday and Saturday as well as luncheons with the speakers. All the other sessions are included in your registration fee.

CAN I CHANGE MY SELECTIONS LATER?
You can change your selection later contingent that your new selections are available. Please click Review/Change your Registration or contact us for your new selections(s). 

CAN I PURCHASE A TICKET FOR THE FRIDAY EVENING EVENT ON SITE?
Yes. Tickets for the Friday night event can be purchased on site for $50/person. We encourage you, however, to register for the Friday evening event as early as possible. This also greatly helps us with meal planning.

CAN I PURCHASE A 'PRIVATE LUNCHEON WITH THE SPEAKERS' ON SITE?
Yes, but 'private luncheon with the speakers' are on a first come, first serve basis. Last year these sold out well in advance. Should any tickets be available they can be purchased on site for $50/person/luncheon. Please note, there is no charge to attend lunches with IAYT board members or staff, but you must still register due to limited seating.

AS AN ATTENDEE, MAY I HANDOUT PROMOTIONAL MATERIALS FOR MY UPCOMING YOGA EVENTS?
Promotional materials may not be distributed during any program related activities (workshops, main sessions, concurrent sessions, practice sessions, social events). However, complimentary tables located at the exhibit hall will be available for promotional materials display. Depending on the amount of material displayed, some of these materials might be cleared each evening.

CAN I BUY ANOTHER COPY OF THE FINAL PROGRAM AT THE MEETING?
Remaining copies will be available at the book store for purchase of $20/copy.


CAN I BUY A PRINT OUT OF THE SPEAKERS MATERIALS INSTEAD OF DOWNLOADING THEM FROM THE WEBSITE?
A hard copy of the materials submitted by the speakers  "SYTAR 2008 Course Companion" will be available for purchase on site for $30/each.  You may reserve your copy by emailing info@sytar.org. Please write "SYTAR 2008 Course Companion" on the subject line.

WILL I BE ABLE TO DOWNLOAD MEETING MATERIALS PRIOR TO THE SYTAR 2008?
Attendees will be able to download meeting lecture materials prior to the meeting from the Scholarships page.  We also hope these materials will also be available at the emerging IAYT Digital Resource Library.

HOW CAN I GET A RECEIPT/INVOICE FOR MY REGISTRATION?
Upon registration you will receive an email confirmation of your registration. If you do not provide us with your email address we will mail you the confirmation of your registration.

 

DO YOU OFFER ANY GROUP REGISTRATION RATES?
No. We do not offer any group discount rates.

IS THERE A STUDENT OR SENIOR REGISTRATION DISCOUNT?
No. There are no discounts for students or seniors.

WHEN IS THE EARLY-BIRD REGISTRATION DEADLINE?
The Early-Bird discount is only available for the first 300 registrants. On the SYTAR 2008 homepage you can view the counter indicating the number of early bird registrations still available.


WHAT IS THE REGISTRATION-CANCELLATION POLICY

If you must cancel for any reason, please notify us via email at registration@sytar.org by January 15, 2008. Your registration fee will be refunded, less a $75 processing fee. No refunds will be made after this date. You may, however, transfer your registration to another member/non-member at any time.

CAN I BRING FAMILY MEMBERS TO SOME OF THE SYTAR 2008 EVENTS? HOW MUCH EXTRA WOULD THAT COST?
People accompanying you may attend the meals and special events of the SYTAR 2008 as an 'accompanying person'. The cost to register as an 'accompanying person' is $250 and includes: Thursday night opening and welcome reception; breakfasts on Friday, Saturday and Sunday; lunches on Friday and Saturday; morning and afternoon coffee breaks on Friday and Saturday and access to the exhibit hall. Not included in the 'accompanying person' pass is access to any part of the workshops, main sessions, practices sessions, private luncheons with the speakers or the Friday evening social event. Also not included is a SYTAR 2008 tote bag or any parking cost.

RESEARCH PAPERS PRESENTATION

WHAT IS AN ABSTRACT, ORAL AND POSTER SESSION?
The Scientific Committee invites you to submit your research work in the form of a short abstract (2500 characters). We welcome scholarly research-based submissions related to any tradition or aspect of Yoga therapy. Authors with a background in Yoga therapy, integrative health care, and/or scientific research are all encouraged to submit. Abstracts should include unpublished material. All submitted research papers (abstracts)  will be peer reviewed, scored and chosen on merit for oral or poster presentation. Six abstracts will be presented at the SYTAR 2008 main session on Saturday morning. All accepted abstracts will be published in a supplement to the International Journal of Yoga Therapy - which will be available to all participants at the meeting.

HOW DO I SUBMIT AN ABSTRACT?
To submit your abstract please select the menu item 'Call for Abstracts' of the SYTAR 2008 homepage or click here.  Please note that the last date for abstract submission is December 16, 2007.

I NEED SOME HELP WRITING MY ABSTRACT.
Detailed abstract preparation instructions are listed on the 'Call for Abstracts' page. Please click here to access the 'Call for Abstracts' page. For additional information related to your abstract preparation please email the chair of the scientific committee Dr. Sat Bir Khalsa at khalsa@hms.harvard.edu and write 'help with writing my abstract' on the subject line.

WILL I RECEIVE FREE REGISTRATION IF MY ABSTRACT IS ACCEPTED?
No. Abstract acceptance does not include complimentary registration for the SYTAR 2008. As an abstract presenter you must be fully registered and paid for the meeting.

WILL I RECEIVE AN HONORARIUM IF MY ABSTRACT IS ACCEPTED?
No. Abstract presenters (oral or poster) do not receive any honoraria.

TRAVEL AND LODGING

WHAT ARE THE ROOM RATES AT THE HILTON LAX?
A block of rooms has been reserved for SYTAR attendees at the reduced rate of $119/night. The special room rate of $119/night will be available until February 13th, 2008 or until the group block is sold-out. You may book your room online or contact the hotel at: 310-410-4000

WHERE CAN I FIND INFORMATION ON HOW TO GET TO THE HILTON LAX FROM THE LOS ANGELES INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT?
Complimentary shuttle bus pick up is available from the Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) and is located outside the baggage area. Look for the red sign that says "hotel courtesy shuttle". The shuttle bus runs every 20 minutes around the clock. It takes around 20 minutes to reach the hotel with the shuttle bus. It is a 5 minute cab ride at approximately $10 cost.

I AM DRIVING TO THE SYTAR 2008; WHAT ABOUT PARKING AT THE HILTON LAX?
Parking can not be validated by SYTAR at the Hilton LAX parking structure.  However, a special self parking fee of  $10/day will be available for SYTAR attendees.

WHAT IS THE WEATHER IN LOS ANGELES IN MARCH?
The average temperature in Los Angeles during early March is around 55 degrees Fahrenheit or 13 degrees Celsius. It is always a good idea to dress in layers.

WHAT KIND OF CLOTHING SHOULD I PLAN ON WEARING FOR THE SYTAR 2008?
Plan to wear comfortable Yoga clothing for practice sessions and main sessions. It is always a good idea to dress in layers especially in the large main session lecture rooms. Large hotels have tendencies to keep the lecture rooms cool. In our contract with the hotel, we have asked the hotel to guarantee a comfortable temperature of around 70 degrees but there is no guarantee that the hotel can meet this requirement especially if the outside temperature is below the expected average. Daytime outdoors: sweater weather. Nighttime outdoors: jacket weather. Plan to wear something special for the Friday night party.


IS THE FOOD FOR THE SYTAR 2008 VEGETARIAN FRIENDLY?
We are taking great care in assuring healthy, vegetarian ayurvedically inspired meals. We will attempt to provide vegan selections each meal but we cannot guarantee this. We cannot guarantee free-range products, lactose free menu items or gluten free menu items. 


DO YOU ACCOMMODATE SPECIAL NEEDS?

The Hilton LAX is wheel chair accessible. Please contact Hilton for details. You can also contact us to let us know how to best assure that all your special needs  are met.

WILL THE PRESENTATIONS BE RECORDED AND AVAILABLE FOR PURCHASE?
CDs and DVDs of some pre-SYTAR workshops and all SYTAR main sessions will be on sale during the meeting. Most of the presentations will also be available for sale on the internet after the meeting.

WILL THERE BE BOOKS AND OTHER RELATED EDUCATIONAL MATERIALS FOR ME TO PURCHASE AT THE SYTAR 2008?
Yes. Please stop at the bookstore located in the exhibit hall. You can purchase books, DVDs, CDs and other educational materials related to Yoga therapy.


HOW DO I ARRANGE FOR A PRESS PASS?
Please contact info@sytar.org for more information.  There will be a limited amount of press passes. There is no charge for the press pass which includes access to all workshops, main session and exhibit hall. The press pass, however, does not include access to the Thursday night reception, practice sessions, private luncheons with the speakers or parking validations.  Friday night social events and meal tickets can be purchased separately.

WILL THERE BE A SYTAR 2008 NEWSLETTER?
Yes. You will be receiving the SYTAR 2008 newsletter via your email address. We are planning the first newsletter in November 2007.


WILL THERE BE A PLACE FOR MY PERSONAL YOGA PRACTICE AT THE SYTAR 2008?

Yes. A personal practice room for will be available all day Friday - Sunday from 6:00 AM.
